SYMPTOMS

Clicking a SAFARI Montage permanent link from some Microsoft Office applications may result in failure. The failure manifests itself as either a “Page Cannot Be Displayed” error, or being taken to the SAFARI Montage login page then not being redirected to the link destination upon login.

It is likely that this problematic behavior is specific to Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, but may extend into other Microsoft Office applications as well.

This problem occurs very rarely. It only occurs in very specialized circumstances with certain combinations of hardware, software, proxy servers, etc. So far, we have only witnessed it occur on Windows XP.

WORKAROUND

There is currently no known (reliable) workaround for this issue. You may see a possible workaround in Microsoft’s knowledgebase article above that involves changing two registry settings, but we cannot vouch for the success of this workaround nor recommend it. Attempt it at your own risk.
